The CCBA is still important in Portland's Chinese community. Its public activities include business networking, festival observance, Mandarin classes, and similar. It's just a couple blocks from the Hop Sing Tong's building inChinatown.

Thanks. Although I have not spent much time in Portland (although I have heard good things), that is the way it is throughout the older Chinatowns of the USA and Canada. Incidentally someone wrote a major paper (I forget if it is a senior thesis or a master's thesis) on the Tong Wars of Portland and posted it on the web. A copy sits on my hard drive waiting to be read, and I was thrilled to death to see that my 1990s book, Tongs, Gangs, and Triads was in the bibliography, One of my goals is to write a fuller history of the tong wars in North America, but a couple months ago, as readers know, I discovered that

Chinatown in Portland is largely a ghost town. The only TCM apothecary is Iranian. Chinese owned businesses moved out of the urban core years ago. It's how things go, but it's kind of sad
