Malaysian English VS Standard English, 2009 Toastmasters Winning Talk
Something light this week.
Greetings,
Usually on Thursdays I share a video or something interesting that I found on the internet. This week, I am keeping it light. Marianna Pascal, a Canadian woman, discusses the variety of English spoken by her husband, a Malaysian Chinese man, and her children and Chinese-Malaysian neighbors. Toastmasters is an international organization where people meet together to practice public speaking.
I used to show it my students at Fudan University when I was there. I think it was just to increase awareness of the diversity of English types and prepare them for the challenges of using English in the real world. I often miss that job.
